The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a non-governmental organization composed of members of parliament from 111 countries, maintains a special committee to investigate the reported violations of the human rights of members of parliament. During 1990 Amnesty International sent the committee information on the situa- tion of members or former members of parliament in Colombia, Indonesia, Nepal and Sudan. Amnesty International delegations observed the April session of the Inter-Parliamentary Conference in Nicosia, Cyprus, and the October session in Punta del Este, Uruguay,
