As you know, we asked the Building and Lands Department of the Hong Kong Government to look into Mr Lau's case. Department has now informed us that under Hong Kong law Mr Lau's claim is, unfortunately, no longer valid. section 17 of the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance, compensation must be claimed within five years of the date of its award. Compensation was awarded in respect of the land owned by Mr Lau's father in August 1974. As the claim period elapsed in August 1979, Mr Lau's claim is now "out of
