The Aviation and Maritime Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office present their compliments to the Austrian Embassy and with
reference to the Embassy's Note No 5.95.01/2-A/91 of 16 May 1991,
have the honour to confirm that the United Kingdom Government is
content to authorise the Government of Hong Kong to enter into
negotiations concerning an Air Services Agreement with the
Government of Austria. On the successful negotiation of an Air
Services Agreement text, the United Kingdom Government will grant the Hong Kong Government a specific authorisation to sign it.
As the Embassy will be aware from recent contacts with the Department of Transport, it is now for the Governments of Austria and Hong Kong to make mutually convenient arrangements for such negotiations. In view of the time required for completion of the usual preparatory procedures in the case of Air Service Agreements negotiated by the Government of Hong Kong, however, it is unlikely
that the negotiations can take place as
as August, as suggested
by the Government of Austria.
The Department of Transport understand that the existing arrangements governing air services between Austria and Hong Kong should provide a satisfactory basis for operations in the meantime, but that the Hong Kong government would be prepared to consider sympathetically any applications by Lauda Air for extra flights ad hoc should such be justified by traffic demand during the peak period.
