SHIPPING WORK FOR HONG KONG AUTHORITIES

ARHA/egm

4 March 1991

1.

We have been led to believe that British Consular posts no longer look after shipping work for Hong Kong. We found this out in an embarrassing incident in which the captain of a Hong Kong registered ship came to us to have the name of his vessel changed, and had to wait for a few hours while we tried to find out whether we could do this on the new style registry certificates he produced. Nobody in the Department of Transport or R. S. S. could shed much light on the changes. complicate matters, R. S. S. had changed all their telephone numbers which we did not know about.

2. I should be grateful if you could let me know what, if anything, we now do for the Hong Kong Authorities in shipping work i. e. Change of Master, Radio Safety Certificates, Notes of Protest, and what we should advise masters of Hong Kong registered vessels to do. I would suggest that soneone informs all consular posts, and also lets posts know the new telephone numbers for R. S. S.
