The new shipping register was set up upon the

of
Ordinance and its

The Ordinance
embodies all the essential

recommendations of the Steering Group on the framework of
new register such as eligibility to register,
registration procedures,
registration,
provisional

mortgages and liens, transfer and transmission of
ownership, closure of registration, representative
persons, etc.
The subsidiary legislation provides for
regulations on ships' names and fees and charges.
7.
"Instructions to the Registrar" have been
published and are on sale to the public. They supplement
the Ordinance
in the administrative procedures for
shipowners to follow in
seeking to register ships. The
particulars of ships on
the
register are now kept on a
computer system.
