11. The International Maritime Organisation
11.1.
The Joint Declaration between Britain and
China provides that the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region will be able both
(a) using the name 'Hong Kong, China' to
participate in international
organisations and conferences not limited
to States; and
(b)
to continue to maintain a shipping
register and issue related certificates
under its own legislation in the name of
'Hong Kong, China'.
Relationship between IMO and Hong_Kong
11.2.
The International Maritime Organisation is the
principal world organ for the co-ordination of
governmental regulation and practices relating to
technical matters affecting shipping. It is the only
specialised agency of the United Nations solely
concerned with maritime matters.
11.3.
Hong Kong is unique in that it is the only
Associate Member of the IMO, a position it has occupied
