5. I do not wish to sound negative or unhelpful about this, and I hope you will understand. We are reaching the point here where our ability to ful full our trade promotion role is very stretched, as we have to give large amounts of our time to running conferences (a Sherpa and Pacific Rim Heads of Mission conferences recently, and a regional Management Officers' conference to come), help look after visitors (Lord Caithness has just gone: the next four weeks bring the Prime Minister, Mr Hurd, Mr Heseltine, Mr King, Mr Howe, Mrs Thatcher, the Lord Mayor of London, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Mr Kaufman, not to speak of a flood of business visitors). We are a small post and can only do so much. The seminar you propose, I believe, could be a great success and I am enthusiastic about it. it needs to be very well planned and targeted - and well run on the day all of which would take more time and money than we have to do it properly.
