Convention on the Recognition of
Divorces and Legal Separations (Hague 1970)

This
multilateral
Convention, produced at the
Session of the Hague Conference
on Private
International Law, is designed to simplify the rules
regulating the recognition of a divorce or legal separation
in another Contracting State.
2.
The divorce or legal separation must be obtained
judicial or other proceedings that are legally effective
in their State of origin (Article 1)

Another Contracting State is obliged to recognize
such divorces and legal separations if at the date of the
institution of
those
nationality or domicile

both spouses are nationals of States that do not provide
for divorce and of no other State (Article 7).

The Convention establishes that the findings of
fact on which jurisdiction was assumed in the State of
