Dear Mr Butler

CHINESE COPYRIGHT LAW: IMPLICATIONS FOR HONG KONG

1.

ло

Thank you for your letter of 11 June, on the basis of

7 which we sent a telegram to Hong Kong (FCO telno 1200, attached). Hong Kong have now replied (Hong Kong telno 2745, attached).

2. The "practical arrangements" route which Hong Kong are now considering (para 3 of the Hong Kong telegram) seems to me to be more of a starter than their original proposal that a future UK/PRC agreement be extended to Hong Kong. If there are any further thoughts you would like me to feed in to Hong Kong at this stage I would of course be glad to do so.

3. In the meantime, I should be most grateful if you and Mr Seaton, to whom I am copying this letter, could keep me in the picture regarding China's possible accession to Berne, and progress on the bilateral front, so that I can keep Hong Kong informed.

Yours sincerch Amitzpher Sainty
