In designing or revising the methodology, concepts and definitions used in surveys of employment and wage statistics, due consideration has been given to recommendations and standards of the International Labour Organisation in order to facilitate international comparison and analysis. For example, the General Household Survey (GHS) follows clocely the latest development of ΠΟ standards and guidelines for soliciting information regarding labour force statistics. In the current GIIS, definitions used in measuring labour force statistics follow those recommended by the Thirteenth International Conference of Labour Statisticians.

In designing the surveys for the GIIS, there is no need to consult organisations of employers and workers to take into account their need or to seek their co-operation since the target respondents of GIS are members of a household who are solicited to answer questions relating to their economic activities.

Consultation with the management of selected establishments has been conducted during the planning stage for economic surveys, mainly on the questionnaire design. Workers have not been consulted.

At the planning stage of the HES, consultation have been made with trade associations, labour unions as well as research and academic institutions on the proposed design and mathodology of the survey.
