The
history of prosthetic research and production
is relatively short and the basis is weak.
Prior
in China
to the founding of our state, there were only several very
small-scale private workshops producing artificial limbs in
Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang. After the liberation,
prosthetic research and production started to develop more
rapidly. At present, there are 39 prosthetic factories and
artificial limb assembling stations under the management
of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, with a total employment
of 4,000 workers.
The annual output include more than
32,000 artificial limbs, 89,000 orthopedic instruments and
15,000 wheelchairs of various kinds. Meanwhile, we have
established the prosthetic Research Institute of China and
an intermediate vocational school of prosthetic linb
technology in order to create conditions for developing
prosthetic research and production.
