Details of the Chinese proposal are as follows
(a)
the
100
PRC
left-hand-drive
passenger coaches
would be
vehicles and would cross the
border at Lok Ma Chau.
In response to our
observation that Hong Kong has had little
experience in managing left-hand-drive vehicles,
the Chinese side indicated that they would be
prepared to accept an initial quota of 50;
(b)
left-hand-drive
in recognition of the safety problem which the
coaches might pose, the Chinese
that passenger doors would be

provided on both sides of the vehicle and a

"left-hand-drive"
warning
sign would be
displayed at the rear of the vehicle;
All PRC coaches would be manufactured in China
and the conditions for PRC coaches and drivers
to operate in Hong Kong would be similar to
those for PRC goods vehicles and drivers (copy
attached at Annex A);
(d)
the schedules and routeings of the PRC coach
services to Hong Kong would be subject to
Transport Department's approval;
