1. You may already have seen the attached article from the International Herald Tribune describing Taiwan's decision to promote Singapore instead of Hong Kong as its main conduit for investment in China.

Although it is tempting to connect this move with the HKG's ban on Mr Li's entry into Hong Kong (see Hong Kong telno 1128 and FCO telno 766), I think the decision may have more to do with Singapore's less sensitive position vis à vis its relations with China and Taiwan and, perhaps, its less uncertain future.
