to make arrangements through the Taiwan Visa Office passports to be taken down to Hong Kong and processed within 48 hours (like Tokyo). Alternatively could not the Passport Office in London offer some service to citizens in Taiwan and make expedited facilities available.

me,

Whilst my own personal problems are of direct interest to far more important are the several hundred other British citizens working here for the benefit of their companies, and in many cases for the benefit of the British government.

As you know I have no right to vote, and therefore no MP. Trying to fight one's way through the system from Taipei is difficult, and I wonder if you could do all British citizens Taiwan a great service by seeking to establish some meaningful procedures to deal with an ongoing problem that affects all of us and is critically important to our ability to operate efficiently as businessmen working for Britain. No one would mind paying a surcharge, even £

surcharge, even 100 would be cheap to us and extremely profitable for the government. What is quite unsatisfactory is the complete lack of any administrative facilities to deal with this matter and the pointless waste money and time that is required under current arrangements to get oneself something that is easily obtained everywhere else and to which every British citizen is entitled.

If you felt able to take this up with some responsible member of the government and obtain some real improvement in this ridiculous situation every British citizen here would be deeply grateful to you.

With kind regards.

Yours sincerely,

P. S. The British Embassy in Manila has kindly agreed on personal basis to do it in 36 hours as a "special" but it will still cost me £500 & 2 days travel. Surely Britain can do

better than this!
