Dear Mr Ganaher
MACAU AIRPORT
I enclose copies of two recent telexes we have received from the British Trade Commission in Hong Kong and from Lisbon, reporting developments on the Macau airport project.
Our interest is primarily on the political side: Chinese obstacles to the construction of the Macau airport might well have relevance to Hong Kong. In the wake of the recent understanding we have reached with Peking over the Hong Kong airport project, however I think we would have to concur with paragraph 7 of the Lisbon teleletter that tracking these developments has become less of a high priority for us: although the twists and turns could still be of considerable interest.
We are not best placed, however, to judge whether our commercial interests justify a lobbying exercise on behalf of the British companies as Lisbon suggest. I should be most grateful for your advice on this and any information which I can pass to Lisbon about UKAG.
Yours ever
Christypher Sainty.
