CONTINGENCY PLAN AND STANLEY HO

1.

During my journey to Macau on 10 June I discussed a number of things with Stanley Ho. One was our contingency plan for Macau.

2. I said we have invoked his name as the only possible source of effective transport out of Macau in an emergency. I hoped he was happy with this lese majesté. Ho replied that he would of course put whatever transport was necessary at our disposal and give his full co-operation. He added that the 1967 collapse of Macau government authority had been a pitiful thing but that he could not foresee the circumstances in which such a complete breakdown of law and order could

reoccur.

3. This verbal commitment is worth recording. I am confident Dr Ho would honour it so long as weather permitted air (helicopter) or sea craft to operate.
