When the Czech Deputy Foreign Minister, Martin

Palous, visited Hong Kong (see our reporting telno 1390 of 7 May) among others he called on Donald Tsang, the Director of Administration. During that call he asked how he could obtain specific information on Hong Kong about trade, investment and emigration.
Donald has put together the enclosed package of
statistical materials. A list is attached.

I should be grateful if you could forward these to Mr Palous and express our hope that he will find them useful.
While you are at it, it would be interesting to know whether the Czechs have come to any conclusions about their representation in Hong Kong; and whether they are looking any more kindly on the idea of a visa waiver arrangement with
On the last point, I discovered only yesterday the slightly astonishing fact that PRC citizens are issued with Czech visas at entry points and do not have to obtain them in advance. If the Czechs are worried about sudden inflows of people then I cannot think that Hong Kong should trouble them too much when they do not seem worried about our rather more populous neighbour to the north (!)
