Thank you for sending me an advance copy of the SCMP magazine's hatchet job on Lord Caithness. It was read with some dismay here; not the kind of thing one might have expected from someone who apparently is (or was) a friend of the Caithness family.

Needless to say David Crystal was misquoted. He did not use the language ascribed to him in the first part of the quote; although he did point out the proximity of the two offices on being asked where the Secretary of State's room was.

Anyway the milk is spilt, and least said etc.
