GOVERNOR'S VISIT TO UK: MEDIA ARRANGEMENTS

You asked for my advice on how the Governor might play the media aspects of his visit.

2. I have discussed this with Francis Cornish and John Yaxley. Our collective view is that the Governor should concentrate on background briefing for senior members of the British press rather than high profile interviews on TV/radio or in the

newspapers.

3. We think the most effective format might be a background briefing over lunch for 6-8 selected senior journalists, with the aim of targetting those who write the editorials and set the tone of media comment. The sort of people we have in mind are Rosemary Righter of the Times, Roger Berthoud of the Independent, and, Scott Plummer of the Telegraph. people from the BBC such as Paul Reynolds could also be included. News Department would be happy to advise on a fuller list. We think that it would be worth trying to cover the field
