1. We aim to review regularly our list of proposed titles for Background Briefs, to ensure we have on it, and in a reasonable order of priority, all the subjects which can usefully be covered. Periodically we ask for the cooperation of political departments in the review process, to supplement the ideas which we suggest ourselves. I should be grateful, therefore for your comments on our forward list of possible titles (Annex A), and also for any suggestions for additional themes.

To help you with this task, I attach (Annex B) a short description of what a Background Brief is, and the uses to which it is put.
I also attach (Annex C) a list of the subjects on which Briefs have issued so far this year, and the ones on the stocks at present.
