CALL ON THE SECRETARY OF STATE BY MR MICHAEL CHECKLAND,
DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE BBC
1. Mr Checkland will call on the Secretary of State at 11.45 on 25 July.
2. His purpose is to introduce Mr Li, Deputy Chairman of Hutchvision, a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Limited with whom BBC World Service Television are about to sign an agreement to broadcast on their planned television service to Asia via Asiasat. Lord Derwent, Managing Director of Hutchison Europe Ltd will also accompany. The meeting will enable the Secretary of State to give a final touch of reassurance to Hutchvision on the government's support for the project.
