1. You asked which journalists Mr Ehrman and Mr MacLeod

briefed in Hong Kong, in particular whether The Guardian or

BBC Radio were included.

2.

Mr Ehrman tells me that the original briefing was for local newspapers, five Chinese-language and the South China Morning Post. The SCMP story accurately rendered the agreed

line. He has today taken the same line with Mr James Miles

of the BBC World Service. He has received no approach from The Guardian but would be happy for us to brief them or other UK media on the lines agreed.
