1.
Catherine Napier of "Dateline East Asia" (BBC World Service) has asked for a short interview with Lord Caithness to be included in a package programme about Sino-UK relations, scheduled for broadcast on Tuesday 11 June.
2.
Against the background of the JLG nineteenth meeting due to start on 11 June the theme of the interview would be
the question "How can we improve Sino-UK relations?"
3. I believe this bid represents an opportunity for us to put on the record our wish to work towards improving
relations and I recommend that the Minister should agree to give this interview. FED & HKD concur.
4. I have explained to Ms Napier that we will consult
Lord Caithness over the weekend and if he is able to accept
we would aim to arrange an interview on Monday afternoon.
