Dear
av Geoffmy,
I intend to chair a small private seminar on
Hong Kong on 3 July and would very much welcome it if you
were able to join us. Participants will include
Malcolm Caithness and Percy Cradock, and about
half-a-dozen FCO officials. We propose to invite a similar number of people from outside the Office, including MPs, academics, journalists and businessmen with experience of and interest in Hong Kong.
The purpose of this seminar is to take a good look at where we now stand in Hong Kong, and to examine what options we have in dealing with the problems which we will face over the next six years. Your contribution, particularly given your experience of dealing with Hong Kong at a crucial point in its history, would be a great asset.
The seminar will take place at 1 Carlton Gardens from 1000 to 1130 on 3 July.
と
You
DOUGLAS HURD
The Rt Hon Sir Geoffrey Howe QC MP
