Dear Lord Greys,

Thank you for your letter of 19 September to Malcolm Caithness about the sterling value of Hong Kong overseas pensioners. I am replying in his absence abroad.

I appreciate that these matters have been under consideration for some time, but they are very complex. In close consultation with the Hong Kong Government we are giving urgent consideration to a number of pensions-related issues. I regret that I cannot be specific about timing but we hope to be able to clarify our position in the not too distant future.
