Candidates with "some" UK Residence.

Candidates who do not fulfil the

residence requirement, but who have had "some" UK residence may be

a. A minimum of 12 months residence in the 5 years immediately preceeding the application, or

b. If UK born, a total of 5 years residence at any time or a lesser period if the non-UK residence is entirely in Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the Republic or Ireland and the requirements of sub-para 6b below are met.

Any period if the requirements of sub-paras 6a and 6b below are met apart from current UK residence.

Candidates with No UK Residence. Non-UK residents, who fail to meet the provisions of para 4 or 5 above, may only be considered for a waiver if they satisfy both of the following conditions.

(a) Military experience appropriate to the branch/trade in which they are applying to serve.

(b) Recognised civilian flying or other relevant qualifications.

(c) Suitable engineering qualifications.

(d) Civilian medical qualifications.

8. A waiver of the Residence Rule is not to be requested for enquirers who fail to meet the minimum concessionary requirements set out above. Instead, but only after careful checking of the circumstances, CIS staff are to explain that they cannot accept applications from individuals who are ineligible for service. If there is any doubt as to an enquirer's elibility for consideration for a waiver, clarification may be sought by telephone from HQ I of R (OC Rec Con Flt). It may occasionally be appropriate to discuss entry to a non-sensitive trade.
