Pension Options for HMOCS officers in HK
On 25 June 1990 I wrote to your predecessor Mr. Francis Maude on the subject of pension and compensation scheme arrangements for HMOCS officers serving in the Hong Kong Government. I received а reply dated 9 July signed by Mr. Alan Paul assuring me that the matter was under urgent consideration and that Ministers intended to make an announcement as soon as possible. He also confirmed that it was HMG's understanding that it would not be possible to continue in service as an HMOCS officer after June 1997.
The purpose of this letter is to remind all concerned that nearly a year has passed since that exchange; no announcement has in fact been made; and that
that there is now little more than а year before the deadline for HKG officers to exercise an option under pension
under pension legislation here that could have a bearing on compensation terms for them. The reverse is, of course, also true i.e. the compensation terms could influence choice of option.
In the circumstances I must urge that in all fairness an announcement be made without further delay setting out HMG's intentions towards HMOCS officers in the HKG.
