REACTIONS FROM CMELCO MEMBRIS

MARIA TAM :

It is encouraging to see XXXXXXXMAXXX*X* the Chinese and Britiane Government have coen together to thrash out an agreementwhich will enable the airport core project to go ahead, I hope in the future they will also put their hearts together and work for the best mutual benefit butputting HK interest first. I think it is essential to have that attitude so that the agreement works. There was no mention of the work (consideration) in the agreement.

Cheng Hon-kman:

I am happy that the two sides can beach an agreement which would be importan to PK's long-term interest. It also shows that both sides have shom mutual trust, and mutual understanding in the talks. I feel that we can obtain China's cooperation which is in line with the Joint Declaration. I feel the Government has done very well for the people of HK. It is 2 happy news for the private sector, especially the engineers and those related to conetruotion, as they can all join together in building up the infrastructure of IK, The agreement does not in anyway weaken the administrative power of the K Governent.

ANDREW WONG; Land exciting ★

It is an encouraging views and a very good arrangement. IIIA It does not affect AK's administrative power before and after 1997. The airport committee is only a consultative body without any decision making power, therefore it does not affect with FK's decision, Nevertheless, it can x¤ provide moze diversify views to the authority. I As on the point that FX people are not consulted, I think it is a matter for the British and Chinese Govermenta te *XXXIX settle their differencGE It is a XXXXXX project which straddles 1997, I think it is right for the British and Chinese Governments have raised concern about it and Settled their differences and come to satisfactory agreement. I think HK people ought to be please about the outcome, I would appeel to them to put their heart at ease.

TAM YTU-CHITUNG :

The issue had clouted IK people for quite a long time and finally being solved by the two Governments at the very senior level. Looking at the agreement, I feel it is reasonable and it marks a new beginning xxi of a new era fox British Chinese cooperation, which is good for EX. The contents of the agreement iz are reasonable, I think it ig acceptable to HK people, because it is in line with the Joint Declaration without affecting the administrative power of the HK Government.

I think after the signing of the agreement, HK people need to know more about the project of the airport, give more information to the public. I clso hope that there would be more representatives from the ¿rassroote in the consultative committee.
