WHEN WILL AIRPORT WORK BEGIN?

Hong Kong Government have been going ahead on most urgent

and immediate work, eg call for tenders for Lantau Fixed

Crossing.

Airport platform reclamation the next priority:

call for tenders likely in September.

Hong Kong Government will complete airport to maximum

extent possible by 30 June 1997.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR BRITISH BUSINESS?

British firms have good opportunity to win major project

business, provided they are competitive.

HONG KONG INVOLVEMENT IN VISIT TO PEKING?

Not yet fixed, but Governor of Hong Kong likely to join

party for talks on Hong Kong and signing of Memorandum of Understanding.

PROGRAMME IN HONG KONG?

Not yet fixed, but will include meetings with the

Governor, his advisers in the Executive Council and

community, political and business leaders. Much to discuss.

- Also an opportunity for Prime Minister to refamiliarise himself with Hong Kong: many changes since his last visit. Likely to visit airport site at Chek Lap Kok.

Hopes too to meet British businessmen and promote UK exports.
