As you know the representative from the British Government and also the Hong Kong Government and the representative from the UNHCR, they met in Geneva a few days ago and they agreed to have more talks about setting up an internationally managed holding centre in Vietnam. want to know what is happening for the time being?
I just
Well certainly we are pressing ahead with those talks as quickly as possible. We have further talks this week and it is hoped that we can work towards getting a solution to this problem, so we can set up an internationally managed centre as soon as possible. Now I can't give you at the present time dates or the likely timescale but what I can assure you is that there is an enormous of amount of urgency on our side. But it is only something that is going to work satisfactorily with Vietnamese cooperation and so this is why we are continuing to talk to them. I remain hopeful that it will come to a satisfactory conclusion and I wish I could be more forthcoming about dates and a timetable but at this particular moment, I
can't.

That is one of the many things that is being discussed at the moment in Geneva and there are further talks later this week. But hopefully when I come to Hong Kong in two weeks time I will have a bit more information with me.
