Airport
(Columns)
Wen Wel Po and Ming Pao published the details of a "4-4-2" model proposed by Meeting Point on the financial arrangements for the new airport project. The group alsó called on the UK public to express their views on the project. It stressed that China and Britain should respect the views of the HK community,
Lo Chi-kin, writing in the HK Economic Times, felt that if both sides did not make any change to their attitude and if a new airport was not built before 1997, HK people would become the victims and would be the one who would suffer most.
Legco
(Editorials)
Sing Tao Jih Pao noted that HK's democratic development had made a giant step forward yesterday with the appointment of a Lagco deputy president. The paper noted that John Swaine had sound legal
knowledge and was a person known for his impartiality.
The HK Commercial Daily wondered whether Mr Swaine's resigning from the Exco would affect the close relationship between the Exco and the Legco, thus affecting the efficiency of the councils. The paper hoped chat apart from being impartial, Mr Swaine would also make an effort to ensure a smooth transfer of K's government after 1995. The paper noted that Mr Swaine had not voted in support of Sir Roger Lobo's motion in Legco shortly after the signing of the Joint Declaration. The paper hoped that his attitude towards the Joint Declaration would not have any effect on his work as deputy president of Legco.
Exchange Fund
(Editorial)
The HK Daily News said that the Financial Secretary's remark yesterday that the Exchange Fund Office should go independent showed that the Government had intended to further strengthen its ability to intervene with the operation of the financial market.
