HONG KONG : POSSIBLE CALL FOR ECGD COVER

ANNEX A

Note

It is of course very difficult to be precise about the figures that follow, and they should be regarded as simply offering an order of magnitude.

A

Airport Projects

The total cost of the ten core projects is estimated at around £7.5 billion, though a substantial part of this will be local cost. All ten core projects are outlined in the attached paper; we would highlight the following:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

The Lantau Fixed Crossing Bids required by mid-December 1991. Contract to be awarded in April/May 1992. Possible total value £600/800 million, UK value perhaps up to £250 million.

Airport Platform Call for bids October 1991. Contract to be awarded in June 1992. Total value around £550 million, UK value perhaps £100 million.

Western Harbour Crossing Bids required early 1992. Contract to be awarded 1992/93. BOT project worth around £300 million, UK value perhaps £100 million.

Airport Railway Tenders required - date yet to be decided late 1992 or 1993? Total value around £960 million, UK value £200/300 million.

-

Timescale for

-

Airport Construction and Equipment contracts is uncertain in detail at this stage late 1992 or 1993? Total cost up to £2,500 million, UK value perhaps £600 million.

The above figures suggest a total UK value in the region of £1300 million. It does not seem unreasonable to suggest that we might have a domestic target of £1500 million 20% of the core programme.

B

Black Point

Original anticipated total cost £1.2 billion.

The actual amount could vary considerably depending on the options taken and spread of supply. The most likely options are 2x660 MW thermal and 4x680 MW combined cycle. The order that these are taken in will depend on the gas supply contract (max gas capacity 4x680 MW is currently indicated).
