Probably, in the usual way of the press, you are
being quoted out of context in the attached Sunday Telegraph article. But I was sorry to see them making use of you to suggest that contracts are pushed in a particular direction for political reasons.
For what it is worth, I am not aware of any US Government support for either the Bechtel or the Morgan Stanley bid. Certainly no suggestion whatsoever of them trying to play it tough. The only occasion on which I have ever been lobbied at a high level by the Americans was Mosbacher giving a push to US West in the cable bid.

For my part I gave strict instructions that his lobbying should be disregarded - it should weigh neither in favour of, nor against, US West.
