(d) it offers limited land space for large scale urban

development;

(e)

it creates negative impact on Lantau's environment;

(£)

the land reclamation cost will be high (because

marine mud around CLK is deep) and potential for

future expansion of the airport is limited; and

(g) the terrain of Lantau will pose problem for a

parallel runway system and there will also be

cross-wind problems.

7.

On supporting transportation infrastructure for the

Nim Wan airport, Dr Wang has the following proposals :

(a)

to build two trunk roads with one linking Tin Shui

Wai and Yuen Long in the northeast and another one

leading to Tuen Mun either along the south coast or

via a tunnel through the Tsing Shan Range;

(b) to upgrade the present highway. linking Tuen Mun with

Tsuen Wan in the east and Yuen Long in the north to

expressways and to widen the road from Yuen Long to

the border.

The construction of Route 3 from Kwai

Chung to Yuen Long should proceed;
