PROVISIONAL AIRPORT AUTHORITY - HONG KONG NEW AIRPORT AT CHEK LAP KOK

SITE PREPARATION CONTRACT

NOTIFICATION FOR - PREQUALIFICATION

The Provisional Airport Authority of Hong kong ("The Authority") proposes to prequalify contractors for the tendering of the Site Preparation Contract works to form the 1200 Ha. site for Hong Kong New Airport. The New Airport will have two runways and will be designed to initially handle up to 30 million passengers, 145,000 aircraft movements and 1 million tonnes of cargo annually. The New Airport will be located on Chek Lap Kok Island which is located on the Northern Coast of Lantau Island which lies to the west of the main Hong Kong Island.

Chek Lap Kok Island is about 280 ha. in area and will provide some of the material to infill the sea between Chek Lap Kok and Lantau Island, after dredging, to create the footprint of the new airport. The island will be reduced to an elevation of about +5m and provide approx. 85 milhon bank cubic metres of shot rock and overburden fill. The balance of the fill, which will be in the order of 60 million cubic metres, will be available in marine sand borrow areas. The volume of marine mua deposits to be dredged and disposed of is about 70 million cubic metres.

A notice has been placed in the Hong Kong Governmen: Cazette today inviting prequalification of tenderers. A copy of the notice is attached for your information.
