Dear Mr. Bryn's.

I feel rather remiss in not having made contact with you since your appointment as Assistant Under Secretary responsible for the Far East, Hong Kong, South and South East Asian Departments, having made myself known to so many of your predecessors.

As you may know from Christian Adams, we at Schroders have been extensively involved in the financing of projects in the Far East and a list of these is attached. Currently we are acting as financial advisers to GEC Alsthom in respect to the Black Point Power Station and Trafalgar House and Costain in respect to the Lantau Crossing and Airport Platform projects in Hong Kong.

Elsewhere in the region, Malaysia has been an extremely important market. We have just concluded a £305 million soft loan with the electricity utility, TNB, for the Pergau dam project. Current assignments include the combined cycle conversion of TNB's Paka and Pasir Gudang power stations, on which we are supporting NEI Parsons, and Hunslet's bid to supply EMU's to KTM, the railway authority.

In Indonesia, we recently signed a £29 million soft loan with the Ministry of Information in support of Marconi Communications' contract to supply broadcasting transmitters. Current assignments include supporting GEC Alsthom in their bid to PLN for the Tanjung Priok power station and Landrover in their bid to provide a $20 million fleet to the government.

I thought it would be helpful therefore if you could meet various colleagues of mine who are involved in these activities and, with this in mind, I shall ask my secretary to enquire as to when would be a convenient time for you to lunch with us here.

meeting you

look forward & Your Iminuty Ben and Duneman
