VISIT TO HONG KONG; 22-26 SEPTEMBER 1990
I had
I visited Hong Kong from 22-26 September.
discussions with the Governor, the Chief Secretary, and a
number of Senior Government Officials; and I met a wide range
of people both from British companies working in Hong Kong and
from Hong Kong companies investing in British equipment.
also visited a number of UK projects in the course of
implementation.
I
2. My objectives were twofold: first to promote British
trade in general, through underlining the importance which the UK attaches to trade with Hong Kong and through supporting the efforts of firms currently working in Hong Kong; and secondly,
to pursue particular project opportunities, above all in the
new Port and Airport Development Scheme (PADS) which is
currently estimated to cost £10bn.
