At the Consumer Electronics Show held in Chicago and Las Vegas, a total of 77 Hong Kong companies netted a record HK$715.3 million in on-the-spot orders, more than double the business recorded the previous year. Another group of ten Hong Kong computer companies achieved highly satisfactory results during their participation in the COMDEX Fall Show, also held in Las Vegas.

The TDC organised business delegations to partici- pate in the International Housewares Exposition held in Chicago and the American International Toy Fair held in New York, both the largest shows for their industry in the US.

Similarly, large delegations of watch and clock manufacturers attended the two Jewelers of America Shows held in New York. During the July show, the Council helped the Hong Kong Jade & Stone Manufacturers Association to stage a jewellery gala presentation entitled, "Hong Kong Sparkles in New York". This glittering event was attended by a large gathering of international jewellery buyers. Delegates at the two shows gained business orders worth a total of HK$25.7 million.

Hong Kong products were also featured with central displays at the American Booksellers Association Show in Las Vegas, the National Shoe Fair of America, the Fashion Accesso- ries Expo in New York, the COMDEX Spring Show in Atlanta and the Automotive Parts and Accessories Show in Chicago.
