HONG KONG: INVESTMENT CONFERENCE

1.

You will remember that I minuted to you some time ago about the idea of the Japanese Minister of Finance that there should be an international investment conference in Hong Kong.

2.

Sir John Whitehead, with whom I lunched today, is keen. that if possible he should be able to give Mr Hashimoto some indication of our position on this idea when he next sees him, which is likely to be in mid-September.

Could you please ensure that the Ambassador has briefing by then, (I should like to know the position myself).
