Please provide copies of selected documents reflecting the significant stages in your Department's involvement in this matter, including any warnings given to or received from the Bank of England or other organisations, records of significant discussions internally or externally and internal documents recording your Department's assessments of BCCI, and related organisations, from time to time.
When sending documents, please provide two copies. If the documents are readily available from other sources (eg HMSO) please let me know.
It is hard for the Inquiry at this stage to indicate what period of time the documents, chronology and account should cover. It is plainly events over the last few years (and even subsequent to early July) which will be central to the Inquiry, but an understanding of events in earlier years is likely to be necessary
if later events are to be understood in context.
I look forward to receiving your acknowledgement of this letter and, in due course, your Department's substantive reply.
Yours sincerely
RAD JACKSON Secretary
