1. Mr Vaz thanked the Secretary of State for receiving his
delegation which represented the interests of depositors and
staff the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI).
said that David Green represented a firm of solicitors
appointed by the Law Society to look after the interests of
BCCI depositors, and Richard Homewood represented the firm of solicitors Pickering Kenyon. They had called on Mr Ashdown and
Mr Kinnock on 5 September. The call on the Secretary of State
was the last in this series of calls following their visits to Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong. They did not wish to discuss events which occurred before 5 July: those were for the Inquiry being conducted by Lord Justice Bingham. They wished, instead, to
concentrate on the possible restructuring of the BCCI.
2. Mr Vaz said that his delegation met two members of the
ruling family and various officials during their visit to
Abu Dhabi. There was appreciation of the generally good
relations between the UAE and the UK but serious concern had
been expressed about the actions of the Bank of England in
