MFN STATUS FOR CHINA
We spoke about the enclosed message from President Bush, containing names of US Senators whom the Prime Minister might telephone before the Senate vote on MFN Status for China, which is due tomorrow.
The Prime Minister does not know any of the Senators on the list and, in any case, simply does not have a free moment to telephone between now and tomorrow. We therefore agreed that our Chargé d'Affaires in Washington would speak to the Senators concerned with the Prime Minister's authority, drawing their attention to the Prime Minister's Written Answer in the House of Commons on this subject.
