NUCLEAR POWERED WARSHIP BERTH IN SINGAPORE

1.

Thank you for your minute of 2 October reporting the outcome of your discussion of this subject with US staff on 30 September. I should say that I have taken over Robert Chatterton-Dickson's responsibilities in this

area.

2. We are content with the approach set out at paragraph 4 of your minute, and with the proposal to set up talks with the Singaporeans as outlined in paragraph

5.

3. In view of the interest expressed by Mr Schmitt in UK intentions with respect to nuclear accident response planning in Hong Kong (para 9) I am copying this letter and your minute to the relevant FCO Department.
