At the meeting, you suggested that one possible way forward might be to devise some kind of arrangement whereby the overall contributions to be paid by each side would remain the same, but that payments of credits to the MOD would be phased in such a way as to provide a significant overall benefit to MOD in terms of cash in hand. I said that in principle we would be prepared to look sympathetically at practical suggestions on these lines. Provided that the overall contributions remained the same, we would not on the face of it see a need to consult Finance Committee.
I have asked my experts to look creatively at this idea. I very much hope that it will be possible to find some way forward on the lines you have suggested.
