Sponsored Visits Programme : Visit by an MFA delegation

led by Cui Mingtang(21-31 Oct. 1991)

6-member delegation led by Ambassador Cui Mingtang, Deputy Director, HKMAO, MFA visited Hong Kong from 21 to 31 October. The 10-day visit programme covered briefings on housing developments, government structure, the operations of the Legislative Council, trade and industry policies, monetary policies and management, immigration control, telecommunications development, Hong China economic relations, port developments, and transport developments.

Site visits in the programme included visits to the Tsui Ping public housing estate, the Shatin new town, the LegCo Building, border and airport immigration control points, Stanley satellite earth station, the Kwai Chung Container Terminal, the Castle Peak Power Station, the Cultural Centre, the Science Museum, the Futures Exchange and the Stock Exchange. Copies of the delegation list and the detailed visit programme are attached.

The MFA delegation's visit coincided with the start of the Chinese Government's recent criticism of LegCo. On the eve of their arrival, they requested that a visit to LegCo-in-session be deleted from their programme, although they did not object to visiting the LegCo Building for a briefing by the Clerk to LegCo. Cui was careful not to make any comments on LegCo when questioned by reporters.
