Dear Rita
I was sorry not to have the chance to see you and your delegation during your recent visit to London about Vietnamese migrants. As you probably know, I was in Hong Kong at the time for the JLG meeting.
Nevertheless, I followed your visit closely. I am glad you had a meeting with the Foreign Secretary and that it went well. I am sure that the visit was worthwhile, despite the difficulties and pressures. It is good that people in the UK, both inside and outside Government, should have direct exposure to the concerns of Hong Kong people, through their representatives, about such an important and pressing matter.
I know that your efforts are much appreciated, both by the community in Hong Kong and by those of us in London who are dealing with Hong Kong affairs.
Yours Sincerely
Alan
