On 23 January 1992, the Hong Kong Government is organising a Hong Kong Gala Evening at the Barbican Centre in the City of London. I am planning to come over from Hong Kong myself to be there.

The aim of this Gala Evening is to highlight Hong Kong's achievements and to emphasise its continuing vitality up to and, we hope, beyond 1997. Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales, has graciously agreed to be the Guest of Honour for the Gala Evening. About 800 guests are expected to be present.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6.30pm. This will be followed by a video show and a multi-media cultural presentation of Chinese music, dance and drama, with a fashion show interwoven. The presentation will be the work of students of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Swire School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic. It will end at about 9pm.

I would be most pleased and honoured if you and Judy would accept our invitation to attend this Gala Evening.
