Governor's Visit to London 7-12 March, 1991

I am

You asked, in your letter of 14 December, for ideas as to what the Governor might do in London on Friday 8 March. making no suggestions for Monday 11 March as this looks like being an FCO day, all day. I am currently planning to be in Cardiff that day for CNY celebrations. This can of course be changed if the Governor wants me in London.

The following are possibilities:

(a)

(b)

(c)

Lunch with the editorial board of "The Independent". You will recall this was on the programme for the December visit but had to be dropped;

Dinner (as their guest) with the Hong Kong Executive Club (plus speech).

The usual session with senior staff in this Office plus visits to departments;

(d)

Reception in Chinatown for the "traditional" Chinese community;

(e)

A visit to the European headquarters of the Sing Tao Group. A background note is attached;

I give particular priority to (a) and (b). (c) is also important, particularly at this time, for reasons of morale.
