Hong Kong : Secretary of State's Conversation with
French Foreign Minister, Luxembourg, 27 April
In the margins of the Gymnich meeting in Luxembourg on 27 April, the Secretary of State spoke briefly to Dumas about Hong Kong, in the light of Dumas' visit to Peking and Hong Kong this week. The Secretary of State did not go into detail about Hong Kong or the airport project but asked Dumas generally if he could put in a favourable word with the Chinese. Dumas nodded sympathetically and made positive noises.
Separately, I should record that the Resident Clerk has passed on a request from the Secretary of State to the Governor that he pay some attention to Dumas during Dumas' visit to Hong Kong. It appears that Dumas will be in Hong Kong for a regional conference of French Ambassadors on Thursay and Friday, 2-3 May.
