On Monday and Tuesday we received excellent briefings on

Economic and Monetary Affairs, on University Education (from the

distinguished Vice Chancellor, Dr the Hon Wang Gungwu) and on

Education in Schools. We heard about British Trade in Hong Kong

and we learned about the proposed new airport. We also received

briefings on the political situation. Secretaries David Nendick

(Monetary Affairs) and John Chan (Education & Manpower) hosted

most enjoyable lunches at the Overseas Bankers Club and the Hong

Kong Club, but perhaps the highlight of our briefings was to be

received by the Governor with whom we were able to share out

thoughts on this unique Territory.

"All work and no play .....etc". The Group enjoyed some

very good chinese cuisine, shopping in Cat Street and a boat trip

to Aberdeen Harbour and one of the Jumbo floating restaurants

during our evenings in Hong Kong. All in all a happy, busy five

days for which we are very grateful to those who organised our

programme, Mr Υ C Chan and Miss Lisa Man of the Government

Information Department.

Tuesday evening saw us embark on the British Airways Jumbo

for the 13.5 hour journey back to the UK.
